Rod Mill is a high-performance grinding equipment using steel rods as grinding media, engineered by Sortek Group to deliver precise, efficient material pulverization across industrial applications.
Capacity
Rod Mill offers a flexible processing capacity of 0.62~250t/h, adaptable to both small-scale and large-scale production needs.
Product Configurations
Rod Mill is available in three specialized configurations to meet diverse operational requirements:
Overflow rod mill
End peripheral discharge rod mill
Center peripheral discharge rod mill
Advantages of Rod Mill
Controlled Media Movement: Steel rods in Rod Mill maintain regular, predictable motion, ensuring uniform grinding action.
Easy Installation & Maintenance: Designed with user-friendliness in mind, Rod Mill simplifies setup and routine upkeep, reducing downtime.
Rapid Discharge: Optimized material flow paths enable quick, efficient discharge - enhancing overall production throughput.
Uniform Particle Size: Minimizes over-grinding, delivering consistent particle size distribution critical for quality-sensitive processes.
Product Overview
Rod Mill derives its name from its grinding medium with high quality steel rods. Primarily designed as a wet overflow type, it excels in first-stage grinding applications, particularly in artificial sand and stone production, mineral processing plants, and chemical plant power sectors. Trusted by industries worldwide, Sortek Group’s Rod Mill combines durability with precision for reliable performance.
Working Principle
Rod Mill operates through a robust drive system: either motor-driven via a reducer and peripheral large gear, or low-speed synchronous motor paired with a peripheral large gear. Steel rods (the grinding media) inside the cylinder are lifted by centrifugal force and friction before falling, creating impact and grinding action. Materials enter through the feed inlet, are pulverized by the moving steel rods, and are discharged continuously via overflow - ensuring a steady, efficient grinding cycle.
Grinding Media Specifications
Sortek Group selects high-quality steel rods as grinding media, with strict adherence to optimal dimensions:
Length: ≤7m (longer rods risk entanglement)
Diameter: 75~150mm
Steel rods are engineered for optimal stiffness and hardness - maintaining straightness during operation while resisting excessive brittleness (to avoid breakage) or softness (to prevent bending and entanglement). This ensures long service life and minimal maintenance disruptions.
Key Applications
Rare Metal Processing: Rod Mill is ideal for gravity or magnetic separation plants handling tungsten, tin, and other rare metals, where preventing over-grinding is critical.
Two-Stage Grinding: As a first-stage grinder, it offers higher capacity than ball mills, making it a cost-effective choice for multi-stage processing lines.
Crushing Alternative: In specific scenarios, Rod Mill can replace short-head cone crushers, streamlining workflows with integrated grinding capabilities.
