Silica Sand Purification Project
Basic Project Information
Project Index | Details |
---|---|
Project Name | Silica Sand Purification Project of Sortek Group |
Location | JIangxi Province, China |
Target Mineral | Silica Sand (Quartz Sand), key raw material for high-end glass, electronics, precision casting |
Capacity | 3,000,000 tons/year, large-scale purification base in East China |
Main Equipment | Sortek Series Magnetic Separators: WHIMS (1.8T), Wet Drum, Medium-Intensity |
Technology | Multi-stage Grinding + Coarse-to-Fine Gradient Magnetic Separation (physical process) |
Processing Technology
Raw Ore & Target
Raw ore contains 0.06% Fe₂O₃ (600ppm). After 50+ tests and technical exchanges, Sortek developed a gradient magnetic separation scheme to remove weak magnetic iron impurities, targeting Fe₂O₃ < 90ppm.
Processing Steps
Step 1: Grinding - Raw ore crushed to 0-3mm, then ground to 80% passing 200 mesh (0.074mm) for impurity dissociation.
Step 2: Pre-Magnetic Separation - Ore pulp first treated by Sortek Wet Drum Magnetic Separators (0.8-1.0T, removes strong magnetic impurities) and Medium-Intensity Separators (1.2-1.4T, removes weak magnetic impurities). Removes 60-70% iron, reducing Fe₂O₃ to 150-200ppm.
Step 3: Deep Purification - Three Sortek WHIMS (1.8T) in series: 1st to <100ppm, 2nd to <90ppm, 3rd to <80ppm (0.008%), far below standard.
Process Advantages
Environmental - Pure physical process, no harmful chemicals, zero pollution
Operational - High automation, 2-3 workers/shift, 95%+ equipment availability
Resource Efficiency - Produces high/medium/low-grade silica sand, 98%+ utilization rate
Project Significance
This is China's first industrial application of Sortek 1.8T WHIMS in high-purity quartz sand production, breaking the technical bottleneck of physical ultra-low iron purification. It has been visited by 30+ enterprises/institutions, providing a model for green, efficient silica sand purification and driving industry upgrading.
