A heavy duty impact crusher from Sortek Group is a robust and high-efficiency crushing device, whose core function is to break large rocks, aggregates, and other materials into uniformly shaped small particles through high-speed impact force. Leveraging decades of experience in industrial equipment manufacturing, Sortek Group’s crushers are widely applied in industries such as mining, construction, resource recycling, and quarrying, and can flexibly adapt to primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing operations. Below is a detailed, standardized overview of its core components, working principle, equipment types, application scenarios, and key advantages.

1. Core Components & Working Principle

1.1 Main Structure

  • Rotor: Composed of a high-speed rotating main shaft and equipped with wear-resistant blow bars or hammers, it serves as the core component responsible for generating impact crushing force.

  • Impact Plates (Aprons): Designed as adjustable steel plates. After materials collide with the rotor, the impact plates rebound the materials and perform secondary crushing, enabling precise control of the crushing effect.

  • Feed System: Consists of a hopper and a conveyor. It is responsible for feeding materials into the crusher evenly and stably, preventing equipment load fluctuations caused by uneven feeding.

  • Discharge Opening: The particle size of the final crushed product is controlled by adjusting the opening size, making it a key structure to ensure the discharged material meets the required specifications.

1.2 Working Mechanism

  1. Materials are fed into the crusher via the feed system and then rapidly accelerated by the high-speed rotating rotor.

  2. The blow bars on the rotor strike the materials at high speed, forcefully launching them against the impact plates. The materials fracture under the combined effect of double impact forces.

  3. If the fractured materials do not meet the preset particle size, they will repeatedly collide and crush between the rotor and impact plates until the particles are small enough to pass through the discharge opening. Some models further shape the particles using the "stone-on-stone" (corresponding to Vertical Shaft Impact, VSI) or "stone-on-iron" (corresponding to Horizontal Shaft Impact, HSI) principle.

2. Types of Heavy Duty Impact Crushers

2.1 Horizontal Shaft Impact Crushers (HSI)

  • Suitable for processing medium-hard to soft materials (e.g., limestone, coal).

  • Adopts a horizontally arranged rotor and adjustable impact plates, enabling precise control of particle size.

  • Commonly used in primary or secondary crushing processes.

2.2 Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers (VSI)

  • Specifically designed for hard rocks (e.g., granite, basalt) and capable of producing cubical-shaped aggregates.

  • Utilizes centrifugal force to hurl materials against a rock-lined crushing chamber or anvils for crushing.

  • Widely used in tertiary crushing and sand-making operations (e.g., related equipment from Sortek Group Machinery Equipment).

3. Application Scenarios

  • Mining Industry: Processing ores such as iron, gold, and copper.

  • Construction Industry: Producing high-quality aggregates required for concrete, asphalt, and road base materials.

  • Recycling Industry: Crushing construction waste including concrete, asphalt, and demolition debris.

  • Quarrying Industry: Breaking natural stones like limestone, granite, and sandstone.

  • Industrial Field: Handling bulk materials such as coal, gypsum, and refractory materials (e.g., equipment applications from Sortek Group).

4. Key Advantages

  1. Superior Particle Shape: Produces cubical particles with low flakiness content, making them ideal for the production of high-strength concrete.

  2. High Reduction Ratio: Achieves a maximum reduction ratio of 50:1 in a single crushing pass.

  3. Low Energy Consumption: Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers (VSI) consume 30% less energy than traditional crushers.

  4. Strong Flexibility: By adjusting the impact plates and rotor speed, it can adapt to different types of materials and output requirements.

  5. Easy Maintenance: Wear-resistant components (e.g., ceramic liners) extend the equipment’s service life, while hydraulic systems simplify adjustment operations and reduce maintenance difficulty.
